This is education, not advice
The information here is written for the general reader and does not replace a personal medical consultation. It cannot tell you whether either decision is appropriate for your breast, your health or your circumstances.
No outcome is guaranteed
No treatment can be guaranteed. The shape of a breast after an implant is removed depends on the skin and the tissue that remain, and it is usually not the shape the breast had before the first augmentation. A replacement implant has its own limited lifespan, and either decision can be followed by a further operation.
A device that remains needs surveillance
Imaging and checks on a schedule continue for as long as an implant is in place, because a rupture can be silent and because a change in the breast is investigated rather than watched. Removal ends implant-related surveillance, and it does not end the need to report a change.
A change in the breast is investigated
A lump, a change in the skin, a discharge or a marked change in shape is assessed on its own merits, whether or not an implant is present. This site does not replace that assessment and cannot tell you what a finding means.
